The Strand Hotel, Eastbourne

BUSINESS TURNAROUND – 3x EBITDA

The owner having acquired this 110 keys hotel in 2010, faced supressed revenues, and consistent losses. NWH was appointed in 2014 to turn around the business.

NWH discovered the reasons behind low performance and slowly migrated the customer focus from coach driven business to leisure driven business.

In addition, revenue management systems were put into place, and costs were substantially reduced by cutting payroll costs, renegotiating contracts, and improving staff productivity.

As a result, the EBITDA levels went up to over 3 times, from 90k to 300k. NWH is currently rebranding this into an Ibis Styles Hotel to further improve performance.

The Watermill Hotel, Hemel Hempstead

HOTEL REBRANDING – 2X EBITDA

The Watermill Hotel is a 71 keys hotel in Hemel Hempstead. As an unbranded hotel, the hotel was producing circa £ 220k EBITDA in 2013. NWH was appointed in 2014 to improve the trade and profitability of the hotel.

NWH figured out two key strategies to turn the business around: a) brand the hotel into a Best Western Hotel, and b) improve the C&B business.

NWH implemented this two fold strategy by carrying out an extensive £1m+ refurbishment of the Rooms and C&B areas, and carried out aggressive marketing campaigns to target weddings customers.

As a result, NWH not only made the hotel into a popular destination but also doubled the EBITDA to £490k

Ayre Hotel – Kirkwall

MARKET RE-POSITIONING

60 keys Ayre Hotel is predominately an island led hotel in Kirkwall. The hotel was having good turnover but low margins.

NWH was appointed in 2018 to improve customer mix and margins. NWH identified combination of factors leading to underperformance such as market presence, high fixed cost per key ratio, and low F&B margins., and immediately improved the market reach to attract both corporate, and weddings driven business. Within 1 year, NWH brought in systems to boost the revenues and control costs.

The EBITDA improved from £680k to £800k. NWH has now started working on adding further rooms to the hotel to benefit from economies of scale.
